Stz'uminus First Nation & TimberWest Sign MOU and Complete 700-acre Land Transaction
Stz’uminus First Nation and TimberWest signed a Memorandum Of Understanding that will strengthen their existing working relationship and pave the way for future collaboration. The MOU is intended to ensure SFN’s involvement in timber management and harvesting within the traditional territory while allowing TimberWest to pursue its business mandate. Through SFN’s forestry company, Thuthiqut Resources, the MOU expands on the existing business relationship between SFN & Timberwest and establishes a Relationship Committee that will explore business to business opportunities & shared interests. The MOU will help maintain a strong connection between Stz’uminus First Nation and industry.
The MOU was an important component in completing a land sale between TimberWest’s Couverdon Real Estate and SFN for a total of 700 acres of forestry lands. Negotiations around the sale began 3 years ago and acquisition of the 700 acres will help ensure SFN has lands and resource opportunities now and for future generations.
Stz’uminus First Nation continues to make great progress in growing its forestry operations through land acquisition, woodland licensing, and developing strategic partnerships. (Dec 2015)
Thuthiqut Resources purchased 100 acres of new land from Courverdon, TimberberWest Forest Corp's real estate business. This is the first part of a two-phase deal over 700 acres of land. (Oct 2013)
